Real Madrid players celebrate being crowned 2019/20 Laliga title

Real Madrid football club have been confirmed as the winners of the 2019/20 Laliga title after their 2-1 home victory over Villarreal courtesy of a brace by French Striker Karim Benzema (the victory is their 10th straight win since the restart after the league was suspended due to the COVID19 pandemic).

It's their first league title since the 2016/17 season dethroning 2nd place Barcelona who fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou to Osasuna.

Real Madrid came back from the hiatus simply brilliant and have won 10 games on the bounce which is too much to handle for defending champions Barcelona, their major strength of the impressive has been their solid defensive showings, although they lost their cleansheet today to a late Villarreal goal courtesy of Vicente Iborra which would have been their 7th cleansheet in 10 games.

It was no easy feat for the club from the capital who went head to head with a Barcelona side made favourites to retain their title following the acquisition of Former Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann (who lost to a 94th minute winner to 10-man Osasuna), but their brilliant team work and fantastic squad depth consolidated by a solid defensive foundation saw them over the finish line with a game to spare.

They'll now have all eyes on their second leg Champions League tie against Manchester City where they need to overcome a 2-1 home deficit, with the winner of the tie set to travel to Portugal for the knockout stage of the champions League moved to Portugal as a one-legged competition from the quarter final onwards due to the COVID19 pandemic, and will surely be buoyed by this title win in trying to stage an important comeback even without their star defender and captain Sergio Ramos who will surely miss the game due to suspension.
